Welcome back! Austria is reopening

The nationwide 3-week-lockdown will end on 12 December. Skiing holidays in Austria are back on!

The wait is over! After 3 weeks of lockdown, Austria is carefully reopening and the winter season will be back in full swing in just a matter of days. With COVID-cases falling, we cannot wait to welcome visitors back in our country and on the slopes!

The nationwide lockdown for vaccinated and recovered people ended on 12 December and regionally adapted opening steps are now being taken. From 12 December, travelling to Austria for touristic purposes is possible again in Tirol, Vorarlberg and Burgenland. Salzburg, Styria, Carinthia, Lower Austria and Upper Austria will follow on 17 December. Vienna will reopen its restaurants and hotels on 20 December.

Of course, certain Covid measures will remain in place to ensure the safety and well-being of guests and employees. The so-called “2-G rule" (proof of full vaccination/recovery) applies to enter hotels, ski lifts, and restaurants among others.

Double-jabbed Brits (or travellers with proof of COVID recovery) do not need to quarantine upon arrival in Austria.

Statement Lisa Weddig, CEO Austrian National Tourist Office:
The 20-day lockdown in Austria has proven to be a tough but effective measure, with the infection rate now significantly reduced. This means the nationwide lockdown will – as promised – end on 12 December 2021. With the gradual openings, consideration is given to the needs of the different Austrian regions. Travel for touristic purposes before Christmas is therefore possible earlier in some federal states than in others. The regulations have been set with the utmost care and our international partners can now plan accordingly. We are entering the winter season with a step-by-step opening plan, clear safety rules and, above all, a high level of responsibility by our hosts. From today’s perspective, we assume touristic travel will be possible throughout Austria from 20 December. Of course, all applicable regulations are available on our international channels and, as always, we are happy to be the point of contact for questions and further information.
