New entry rules in Austria

Austria has implemented stricter entry regulations on 25 December. The UK is classified as a virus variant region. Read everything you need to know here.

Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, Austria has tightened its entry rules. The UK - along with The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway - is now classified as a virus variant country. Travel to Austria for touristic purposes is still possible for those fully jabbed or/and recovered but additional documents need to be shown upon arrival.

The new rules for UK travellers in a nutshell

  • Travellers who are fully vaccinated (double jabbed) AND have received the 3rd booster (at least 120 days after the second shot, the booster is then valid from the first day) can enter Austria with a negative PCR test (valid for 48 hours).

  • Two jabs and proof of recovery count as a booster as well. However, a negative PCR test (valid for 48 hours) is needed on top.

  • Recently recovered travellers (within the past 90 days) can use a medical certificate (including the date of recovery) as a substitute for the PCR test.

  • BioNtech / Pfizer, AstraZeneca (or Covishield), Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, the Chinese vaccines Sinopharm and Sinovac, Covaxin, Covovax, and Nuvaxovid (Novavax) are accepted upon entry. During your stay, only BioNtech / Pfizer, AstraZeneca (but NOT Covishield), Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Nuvaxovid (Novavax) are recognised. More info here

  • The second and third COVID jabs are currently valid for 270 days

Rules for children and teenagers

  • Children under the age of 12 do not need proof of vaccination/recovery or a PCR test if accompanied by fully vaccinated or recovered adults.
  • Teenagers (from 12 and born on or after 1 September 2006) can use the first test of their Holiday Ninja Pass to enter Austria.
  • For teenagers born before 1 September 2006, the "2-G+" rule applies.
