Uncover Austria

Austria is often considered to be one of the top winter holiday destinations, and with its snow-capped peaks it’s easy to see why. But there is so much more to Austria just waiting to be discovered.

#uncoverAustria on a summer adventure to reveal the hidden gems of some of the country’s most beautiful towns, cities and natural delights. Take advantage of countless direct flight connections from the UK to Vienna and find yourself in the Austrian capital within the space of a couple of hours. Spend some time exploring the sights, or make use of Austria’s National Railway ÖBB and its direct connections to major Austrian cities from Vienna airport.

You could, for example, head to Graz, a young and vibrant city teeming with culture intertwined with Mediterranean influences and a reputation for food and culinary delights. A highlight is the ‘Long Table’ of Graz event featuring one large table where some 700 guests can dine alfresco in the main square of the Old Town. Now that’s impressive.

Onwards to Salzburg, the baroque masterpiece at the heart of Europe. It’s difficult not to fall in love with this city, birthplace of Mozart and setting of the beloved ‘Sound of Music’. Here you can pay your own visit to the Villa Trapp.

Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps, would make a good next stop. Experience the best of both worlds in this city surrounded by mountains. Spend the morning shopping at one of the exclusive boutiques in the historic city centre before taking a cable car straight up to 2000m for afternoon tea in the Alps.

Before setting off for home, take a few more days to enjoy the peace and serenity of the Vorarlberg region. With its blend of traditional architecture and modern buildings, this region also plays host to a floating stage on Lake Constance and the Schubertiade Classical Music festival.

The undulating countryside between the lake and the mountains makes Vorarlberg a paradise for hikers and cyclists alike. It’s also your last chance to indulge in the local Austrian cuisine, and Vorarlberg’s chefs are uncompromising when it comes to top-notch quality and innovative cuisine. Most of the products they use are sourced regionally, directly from farmhouses, dairy farms or delicatessen producers. Did anyone say cheese?!
