Stanglwirt Green Spa Resort in Kitzbühel is a place like no other: It is an organic farm and luxury hotel both in one. Having welcomed guests for over 400 years, it has changed from rustic inn to a five-star complex over time but has kept its Tyrolean charm all along the way. Stanglwirt, with the Wilder Kaiser range as its dramatic backdrop, is the first sustainable resort in Austria and the first Austrian hotel to be included in Condé Nast Traveler’s “Gold List” of the 142 best hotels worldwide. Its signature spa features a saltwater, rock and sports pool, a waterfall grotto, a natural swimming lake, saunas, steam baths, and a separate kid’s area with slides. Stanglwirth also has its very own Lipizzaner stud and a riding school.
Insider tip: Even though Stanglwirt is a paradise, guests shouldn't miss out on the great outdoors at their doorstep. Go exploring on foot or a bike, or even with a golf bag in tow.
For holidaymakers who’d rather sleep in their own luxurious chalet than a hotel room, Chalets by The Kaprun Edition in SalzburgerLand might be just the right fit. The spacious chalets, all built from logs with organic, untreated wood, form a self-contained village right at a mountain stream, and are separated from the rest of Kaprun by a private bridge, ensuring exclusivity and privacy. The wooden holiday homes come with three to seven bedrooms, a private sauna, hot tubs, and terraces for sunbathing and stargazing. Outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and skiing are all right at the doorstep, and there are football, basketball, and volleyball courts on top.
Insider tip: Explore the mountains, lakes, and valleys with Lake Zell as their centerpiece on some of the numerous hiking, cycling, and mountain bike trails at your doorstep.
Ötztal is a popular alpine destination all year round and Aqua Dome – Tirol Therme Längenfeld makes the deal even better. The charming resort, right amidst the mountains, houses Tirol’s largest spa with a whooping 12 indoor and outdoor pools filled with thermal waters, seven different saunas, and countless massage and beauty treatment options. Relax in thermal water while watching the sun set behind the mountain peaks after a fun day packed with outdoor activities in the region, then head to the in-house restaurant and enjoy Austrian dishes with a modern twist! Aqua Dome has more than 200 state-of-the-art rooms and suites and is perfect for both a romantic break and a relaxed family holiday.
Insider tip: The hotel offers daily guided hikes in the surrounding mountains.
Forsthofgut in Leogang, SalzburgerLand, was a simple forestry business and farm in the early 17th century before the Schmuck family turned it into a luxurious hotel. Today, the stunning complex is run in the fifth generation and boasts Europe’s first forest spa. The adults-only oasis has an old-wood sauna, herbal and steam paths, and a 25-m-long sports pool with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. A standout feature is the new onsen-style pool (42°C) and an authentic onsen washing area where traditional cleansing rituals are practiced. Families with kids are welcomed in a separate water wonderland with an indoor and baby pool, slides, saunas, and a waterfall. Love Austrian food? Look no further than their in-house restaurant serving all the traditional delights.
Insider tip: Forsthofgut runs a special sustainability project, inviting guests to plant a tree on the hotel grounds. Choose the perfect place, dig a hole and receive a tree certificate.
Looking for a cosy escape right at the lakeside, surrounded by mountains? Romantik Hotel Im Weißen Rössl at Lake Wolfgangsee in the Salzkammergut region, close to Hallstatt and Salzburg, is exactly that. And a lot more. The hotel has welcomed guests since 1878 and became famous around the world thanks to the operetta (1930) and musical film (1960) of the same name. Today, it’s a romantic state-of-the-art four-star-hotel with elegantly decorated rooms and its own lakeside spa, including a heated pool and the world’s first floating jacuzzi! The latest addition for love birds is the generously sized Spa Suite with a private lakeside veranda and wellness oasis featuring a sauna, steam bath, infrared booth, and whirlpool.
Insider tip: Try a smoked Rössl char from the hotel’s very own fish farm, a local delicacy on Lake Wolfgang, in the fish lodge with its very Austrian vibe.
When heading to southern Austria, Hotel GUT Trattlerhof & Chalets in Carinthia’s Nockberge region is the perfect mix of rustic cosines and modern cool. The hotel in Bad Kleinkirchheim, run by the fifth generation of the Forstnig family, has prime access to the region’s hiking and biking trails, plus offers tons of amenities such as a stunning spa with a steel pool with massage jets, an indoor swimming pool, a whirlpool, several saunas and a fitness room for yoga sessions. What’s more, guests can book “GUTshof” experiences like riding sessions and tours on e-bikes or with a vintage tractor.
Insider tip: Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage tour around Bad Kleinkirchheim followed by a candle-light dinner at the mountain inn "Trattlers Einkehr", where aperitif is served right at the fireplace. Looking for something extra special? We suggest a drive with the hotel’s Tesla Y through the "Nockalmstraße" (a panoramic road in "Nockberge" national park).
