Women-Only Skiing Trips in Austria
Ski. Connect. Empower. Here are the best female-only skiing getaways in Austria this winter.
It’s all about women taking the lead on the slopes! Solo winter adventures and women-only skiing trips continue to thrive. After all, they offer a lot more than “just” an opportunity to master or newly acquire skills on the pistes. Participants stress the supportive and non-judgmental environment, where they can build up confidence and challenge themselves free from pressure. Many say they feel more relaxed learning among other women than in mixed groups. But it’s more than that. Designed by and for women, these trips are often as much about connection as skiing: While carving fresh powder or unwinding with après-ski wellness in stunning settings, women have the chance to meet others who share their interests and form friendships – a great opportunity especially for those heading on a solo holiday.
Here are five women-only skiing options that perfectly combine adventure, community, and female empowerment on the slopes.
SKISISTERS
Created by Danique and Tamar, two Austria-based twenty-somethings originally from The Netherlands, Skisisters runs women-only winter trips in different locations in the Austrian Alps. This season’s locations are Kühtai and Nauders, both in Tirol, and Saalbach-Hinterglemm in SalzburgerLand. There are trips for complete newbies as well as intermediate and advanced skiers who want to master their skills and/or dip their toes into freeriding. “This isn’t about skiing the fastest, jumping the highest, or competing”, the duo says. “It’s about having fun, being unapologetically yourself, pushing boundaries at your own pace, and sharing the mountain with powerful, like-minded women.” Danique and Tamar host all Skisisters adventures themselves. The trips are three to five days long, include accommodation with half-board, ski passes, female instructors, and wellness facilities, and start at £1,500.

WOMEN'S PROGRESSION DAYS BY LORRAINE HUBER
Professional freerider Lorraine Huber co-founded Austria’s first freeriding school in Lech Zürs am Arlberg and has been organising women-only camps since 2008. They typically take place in March and April and are open to women from 18 to 65. The camps are three to four days long and include several hours of freeriding per day with female instructors, avalanche emergency training and technique video analysis, as well as goodies such as a relaxing yoga session or a professional photographer to document the adventures. Lorraine is a woman who knows what she’s talking about: She won the Freeride World Tour in 2017 and is the daughter of a local ski instructor. Besides their signature freeriding camp Women’s Progression Days also run a ski touring version. Both adventures are £640 (room, board, equipment and ski passes not included).
