Glistening Glaciers, Crystal Lakes and Sublime Skiing in Zell am See Kaprun
Zell am See is one of the most iconic winter sports regions in the Alps, but it's not resting on its laurels. The renowned resort welcomes a myriad of updates in 2019/2020.
With the spectacular new glacier K—ONNECTION linking Kaprun directly to the Kitzsteinhorn, as well as the new connection from the Glemmtal Valley to the Schmittenhohe family and panorama ski resort, this region offers more opportunities for exploration and excitement than ever. Thanks to the new Ski ALPIN CARD ticket alliance, there are 408 kilometres of ski slopes waiting to be discovered.
With its fantastic views to Lake Zell as well as many of the Hohe Tauern's soaring mountains, the Schmittenhohe is a regional highlight. The world’s longest fun slope, the black "Trass" with an altitude change of 1,000m and gradients of up to 70%, the night skiing programme and the many winter hiking trails attest to the fantastic range provided by Zell’s local mountain. Furthermore, with the completion of the zellamseeXpress this year, the Schmittenhohe ski resort can now be accessed from the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn directly. Using a ski bus service, the return journey takes just a few minutes.
Winter starts in October for the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier ski resort, where the extra long season delights skiers until early summer. The new Kaprun—Maiskogel—Kitzsteinhorn 3K K-onnection cable car is dream come true that's been generations in the making. Two new cable cars lead directly from the town centre of Kaprun via the Maiskogel to the 100% snow-reliable Kitzsteinhorn Glacier ski resort. This means ski-in, ski-out conditions for all guests of Kaprun accessing the MK Maiskogel lower terminus lift and the modern Kaprun Center.
The lift connects a total of 12 kilometres making it the longest cable car axis in the Eastern Alps, managing 2,261m in altitude. Skiers, snowboarders, freeriders, ski tourers and other winter sports enthusiasts are guaranteed to find something for them at the Kitzsteinhorn, with three snow parks, a thrilling superpipe, two marked ski touring uphill routes and a glacier cross-country ski track. For time off the slopes, there's also Gipfel-welt 3000 with the "Top of Salzburg“ viewing platform, the National Park Gallery, the Cinema 3000 experience and Salzburg’s highest restaurant offering unforgettable holiday moments at over 3,000m above sea level.
Starting from the winter season 2019/20, the new Ski ALPIN CARD offers winter sports fans in Zell am See—Kaprun access to three premium ski regions: the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, Schmittenhohe in Zell am See and Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun. With this, winter sports lovers can enjoy one of the largest and most diverse ski regions in the Alps. Functioning as one single ski ticket, the Ski ALPIN CARD offers access to 408 kilometres of ski slopes, 121 mountain railways and a multitude of attractions. This sets the next formula for a new wave of premium holidays: one ticket, 3 regions, endless skiing pleasure — from freeriding and panorama skiing to glacier.
