Salzburg City, Nature Paradise
During your stay in Salzburg, why not combine cultural activities with some of the numerous outdoorsy options available? The city's location in the immediate vicinity of several proud hills provides the perfect natural backdrop for strolls through the city center. Many cultural highlights such as Mirabell Palace or Hellbrunn Palace feature beautiful baroque gardens that are a destination in their own right. Stroll down Hellbrunn Avenue, which dates back to the 17th century, and is known as the world's oldest tree-lined Avenue.
If you'd like to get really active, it's time to climb those hills. The Untersberg on the outskirts of the city is also accessible by cable car and affords beautiful views of the city. Or enjoy a different perspective of the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town from the Moenchsberg Stadtalm. With an excellent network of bike paths, Salzburg also enjoys the distinction of being Austria's most bike-friendly city. In summer, you'll be drawn to the banks of the river Salzach - the perfect place for a refreshing picnic. Kick off your shoes and feel the grass under your feet. Formal attire is not required until your evening concert.
